As many of you might know, I LOVE Railscasts – and like many of you, I miss Ryan heaps. He has a knack of being able to make things look super easy; his screen casts enable you to learn a great deal in just a few minutes.
I don’t know about you, but my Rails learning has taken a severe dip since Ryan has been away (I hope you are ok Ryan!!) though, it has also tied in with some personal problems as well, which has left little time for learning anything to be honest.
But the time has come to get back into it, and I hope to put together a list of Railscasts alternatives to tie us over till Ryan comes back. If you can think of any that you feel should be included, please leave a note in the comments to let me know
GoRails
Funnily enough, when searching for alternatives, this is one of the first that came up – and it is run by one of my own buddies, Chris Oliver! I haven’t had a chance to go through any casts yet (told you I have been absent!) but Chris has a great track record, and I’m sure, that if you have any feedback, he will be very receptive. Check it out at www.GoRails.com
CodeSchool
Does CodeSchool need an introduction? I think not!! CodeSchool is the brainchild of another Rails developer who I would call a friend – Greg Pollack. He and his team at Envy Labs kickstarted CodeSchool with the infamous “Rails for Zombies” course! If you haven’t tried it, you must! It’s pretty awesome. One of my favourites is Rails Best Practices – I had done a lot of reading by the time I got around to it, yet I still learned heaps!! Check it out at www.codeschool.com
Rails Books
Ok so not exactly an alternative, but please don’t underestimate how much you can learn by reading. Check out my list here Best way to learn Ruby and Rails
Got more? Please let me know!
I’ll try to keep this updated, but if I’ve missed anything, please let me know in the comments!
